ABSTRACT
Recognizing and understanding anxiety in college student is one of important thing because anxiety can impact studying concentration ability, memory, and comfortability in learning process. One of the factors proved to influence anxiety is scheduled exercise. Scheduled exercise is believed to increase amount of endorphin in the body while endorphin itself can gives euphoria or relaxation effect to decrease someone’s anxiety rate. Purpose of this research is to know the difference in anxiety rate between college students who do scheduled exercise and those who do unscheduled exercise.
This research used analytical observation while sample were drawn randomly in cross sectional way. Participants in this research were 209 sophomore year students in Medical Faculty University of Padjadjaran consisted of 71 men and 138 women. Data were taken by using self report questionnaire that contained general data, disciplines rate in doing exercise, and Zung’s Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (ZSAS) to measure degree of anxiety.
The research shows that 11 (5,3%) students who do scheduled exercise reported feeling of anxiety while 64 (30,6%) students did not in anxiety states. In group who did unscheduled exercise, 43 (30,6%) students reported feeling of anxiety while 91 (43,5%) students did not.
Data analysis shows that there is significant difference in anxiety rate between college students who did schedule exercise and who did not (p=0,006). So, from this research we can conclude that college students in University of Padjadjaran who did scheduled exercise have less anxiety that students who did unscheduled exercise.
